The Idaho hands-free and distracted driving statute
Under Idaho Code § 49-1401A, drivers on public roads may not hold, support, or manually operate electronic communication devices while operating a motor vehicle on active roadways. Statewide hands-free law with primary enforcement; no points.
Law enforcement officers throughout Idaho are authorized to issue citations whenever visual observation confirms prohibited device interaction. Permissible mobile use is generally restricted to manufacturer-installed integrated dashboard interfaces, single-tap voice activation, or true hands-free speakerphone arrangements mounted securely to the vehicle console.
