What makes Iowa different
What the compendium figure is not is the total. A statutory criminal surcharge is applied as a proportion of the fine and court costs are added on top, so the amount a driver pays is meaningfully above the scheduled number. Work zones run on their own higher schedule entirely rather than taking a multiplier on the ordinary one.
On the licensing side Iowa keeps no points at all. The Department of Transportation acts on the count of moving violation convictions instead, and the habitual violator rule is severe: enough convictions inside a two-year window bars the licence for at least a year, without any reference to how fast any single one was.
