The Arkansas hands-free and distracted driving statute
Under Ark. Code § 27-51-1504, drivers on public roads may not hold, support, or manually operate electronic communication devices while operating a motor vehicle on active roadways. Paul Law prohibits texting; handheld ban in school and work zones.
Law enforcement officers throughout Arkansas are authorized to issue citations whenever visual observation confirms prohibited device interaction. Permissible mobile use is generally restricted to manufacturer-installed integrated dashboard interfaces, single-tap voice activation, or true hands-free speakerphone arrangements mounted securely to the vehicle console.
