The Louisiana hands-free and distracted driving statute
Under La. R.S. § 32:300.5, drivers on public roads may not hold, support, or manually operate electronic communication devices while operating a motor vehicle on active roadways. Primary enforcement texting ban; handheld banned in school zones.
Law enforcement officers throughout Louisiana are authorized to issue citations whenever visual observation confirms prohibited device interaction.
