The Wyoming hands-free and distracted driving statute
Under Wyo. Stat. § 31-5-237, drivers on public roads may not hold, support, or manually operate electronic communication devices while operating a motor vehicle on active roadways. Secondary enforcement texting ban; civil penalty.
Law enforcement officers throughout Wyoming are authorized to issue citations whenever visual observation confirms prohibited device interaction. Permissible mobile use is generally restricted to manufacturer-installed integrated dashboard interfaces, single-tap voice activation, or true hands-free speakerphone arrangements mounted securely to the vehicle console.
